Caring for planet,in every shot
At the entertainment industry we know that addressing the climate and environmental crisis is one of society’s greatest ever challenges. To address this, we are working to support the industry to rapidly increase the pace of decarbonisation and minimise our impact on nature. Building collaboration across the sector, we aim to identify gaps in current sustainability practice, whilst providing support and demonstrating new solutions.
With the rapid cuts in emissions needed by 2030, only through joined up, industry wide plans around decarbonisation and environmental action, will we do our part to meet this shared and monumental challenge. This action will not only protect our industry from the impacts of the climate crisis but will help to support a vibrant and creative industry, protecting jobs and creating new, exciting opportunities.
Our Projects aims to align the practices of these successful industries, standardise environmental practices and improve regional policies so that sustainable measures for producing films, TV and audiovisual content can be adopted across Europe. Through Green Screen, participating regions will improve policies to motivate and equip productions to adopt sustainable practices and thus reduce CO2 emissions
How we address this
When film & TV productions are filming at a location, productions almost always establish a Unit Base as nearby as possible. The Unit Base is made up of production and technical vehicles to provide facilities such as catering, hair & make-up, costume and toilet facilities. The number of vehicles can vary from eight up to thirty and to provide power to all the vehicles, productions will hire a minimum of two high power diesel generators. Each generator consumes an average of 80 litres of diesel for each 12-hour period of use
